Shirley Walker Sr.

October 9, 1934 — February 13, 2015

Mr. Shirley Walker, Sr. was born to the late Fegan and Elizabeth A. Walker in Pittsylvannia County, Virginia on October 9, 1934. After a brief illness, he finished his course on February 13, 2015. Shirley received his formal education from Northside High School in Gretna VA. He was a member of Riceville Baptist Church in Java Virginia and later in life attended Bible Way Temple, Raleigh NC. He served in the United States Army where he was Honorably Discharged December 1957. He was a member of The Sons of Calvary where he played the lead and bass guitar and met his bride. On April 19, 1958, he married Barbara Ann Bethel and they were married for 56 years. To this union three children were born. Shirley worked for the City of Danville for a few years and later was employed by Danville Community College where he worked and retired as Grounds Supervisor after 30 years of employment. In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory and to continue his legacy: three daughters: Sherryl (Darnell) Dixon, Raleigh, North Carolina, Penelope Walker of Laurel, Maryland, LaKaisha Stone of Sterling, Virginia; two sons: Shirley Walker, Jr., of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Marty Stone, of Danville, Virginia; eight grandchildren: Darnell Dixon, Jr., Shenise D. Dixon, Justin Pettway, Monika J. Walker, Adoria Walker, Adarius Walker, Marty Stone Jr., and Marquen Stone; five great grandchildren: Kyarra, Cameron, David, Nathaniel III and Konard; two sisters: Queen (Kent) Womack, and Iris (Roy) Parker; four Brothers: Clifton (Mary) Walker, Bobby (Jean) Walker, Thomas (Kim) Walker and David (Alice) Walker; and predeceased brothers: Wilmar Walker and Clevester Walker; Extended family: Marquise, Marques, Ebony and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
