Shirley Jean Hill Sullivan, aged 85, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024 in Raleigh, NC due to complications from dementia . She was born in Diamond, Kentucky on January 19, 1939 to Everett and Lorene Hill. She married Paul Douglas Sullivan in August of 1963, and although they divorced decades later, they remained close in her final days. Shirley had a great love for sports, music and animals. She was an avid fan of the NC State Wolfpack and the New York Yankees, especially Derek Jeter. She loved the music of The Carter Family and her favorite singer was Anita Carter. Shirley played standup bass and guitar in her younger years and passed on her love of music to her daughters. She enjoyed her job as an assistant school teacher with the Wake County School District in Apex, NC where she was employed for 28 years. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Lisa "Sulli" Sullivan and Barbara Sullivan Dillard, her son in law, Russell Lee Dillard III, her grand children Paul Dillard and Russell Dillard and his wife Caroline. Shirley has two great grandchildren, Claire and Quintin. She also has a dog named Zoey, two cats, Miss Skittles and Jellybean as well as a grand dog named Daphne and a great grand dog named Millie.
