Rachel Morgan Sutton

August 3, 1988 – September 8, 2025

After a long battle with illness Rachel Morgan Sutton passed away peacefully on September 8,2025 surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 3, 1988, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Rachel moved with her family to Wilmington at the age of four, where she spent her formative years. A graduate of Ashley High School, Rachel returned to Raleigh to pursue her passion for photography, earning her degree from the Randolph Community College Photography Program in 2023.

Rachel’s artistic eye and creative spirit led her to work with several talented photographers, including Anna Routh Barzin of Chapel Hill, NC who she grew very close to. In addition to her photography, Rachel was a longtime team member at Bella Monica Italian restaurant in Raleigh, where she built close-knit bonds and found a second family.

Rachel is survived by her loving mother Sharon Sutton; father Tim Sutton and stepmother Robin; sister Ryan (Jeremy); nephew Joseph (Kacie); brother Trevor (Anna); nephew Rowan and niece Harper. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Joe and Doris Singleton of Wilmington, NC, and Harold and Rachel Sutton of Bryson City, NC.

Known for her infectious laugh, quick wit, and zest for life, Rachel lived with unmatched joy and authenticity. She loved traveling and spending time with her deeply connected friend group/chosen family. Special thanks go to Maggie, Nick, Canaan, and Mark for their steadfast love and support, as well as the compassionate caregivers at Duke Hospice.

Rachel (affectionately known as “Sissy”) will be forever remembered for her humor, her radiant spirit, and the deep love she gave to everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, creativity, and connection.
