It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Monroe Martin, 71, of Raleigh, North Carolina, who left us on March 12, 2025.

Marilyn, known to many as Medley, was a beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. Born on August 7, 1953 in Sewanee, Tennessee, she lived a life full of compassion, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her.

Medley had a passion for fishing and was a dedicated basketball fan. Her generosity and warmth touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Medley was preceded in death by her parents, Mary F. Battles & James M. Battles, Jr. and her siblings, Frances I. Battles & Frederick I. Battles.

Medley is survived by her daughter, Kismick V. Martin and nephew who she lovingly raised as a son, Tylon J. Thompson, Sisters: Gayle Battles, Patricia Taylor (Maurice), Althea Phillips (Vincent), Brothers: George Battles (Michelle) & James M. Battles, III. (Meera), Sister-in-Law: Margaret Battles, and a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Medley made a lasting impact that will be remembered always. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
