Leeann Howe of Smithfield passed away at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield 06/23/2026 surrounded by family. She was born in upstate New York to the late Bernard Crossman and Cynthia O. Carson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson Shane.

Growing up as the oldest of 7 children, she naturally had a strong will and leadership characteristics. Leeann worked as a property manager in Las Vegas, Nv. for several years and cherished the time she spent there. She moved to NC to spend time with her mother Cynthia Carson before her passing in 2024.

Her love for animals was unmeasurable. She assisted with trapping, spay/neutering and releasing to help slow the cat population, and would take care of any animal that came to her door.

Leeann is survived by her brothers David Crossman (Laurie) of Corinth, NY, Daniel Bennett of Smithfield, NC Myron(Sam) Bennett of Lake Luzerne, NY, sisters Maureen Bennett of Durham, NY, Lisamarie Valla(Robert) of Greenville,NY, Cynthia Casey(Alan) of Smithfield,NC children Philip McCoy of MN, Tanya Crossman of Smithfield, NC Aaron Howe MN grandchildren Destiny,Brittany(Sebastian),Cassidy(Austin), Jonnie, Emily, great grandchildren Kristian, Elijah, Sebastian, Kyro.

My mother Leeann was the kindest person. She was the greatest mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend anyone could ever have. One of her favorite songs was spirit in the sky! I really can not say enough about her. She loved all her animals. She loved her Pepsi and milk. She was simply the best woman on Earth. I love you mom.
