Chapplle was born in Johnston County, NC on July 20, 1942, to the late Jeremiah and Bessie Chappell. She was peacefully called home to Jesus on June 2, 2023 at the age of 80. Gracie grew up in Smithfield (Johnston County), NC. surrounded by her large family. She had 9 siblings. She graduated from Johnston Central High School in 1961. She received her first college Degree at Fayetteville State Teachers College (now Fayetteville State University). She received her Bachelor Of Arts from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. In the1980's, she started her career at NASA in Langley, VA as a Computer Operator. While raising her children, she once again attended college to advance her career in the field of Computer Science. She eventually worked as a Senior Level Computer Programmer for the Federal Government in Washington, DC for over 20 years and received many accolades. She retired as a GS-13 in 2008. Gracie enjoyed spending time with her family, watching Steve Harvey on Family Feud, Comedy movies, playing cards at the Senior Center, and watching political news. She was a caring, generous Mother, Aunt and daughter--always willing to help those who needed her. Gracie was extremely opinionated and would "tell you like it is", whether you liked it or not. She believed in family and always had an open door for them. She loved them deeply and valued her relationships with them. Her potato salad, sweet potato pies and Collards were the best! She also enjoyed attending Kettering Baptist Church, where she was a member for several years. She was preceded in death by Catherine Chappell Sanders, Nina Chappelle Barnes, Edith Chappell McFarland, Columbus Chappell, Albert Chappell, Lester Chappell, Miggie Jean Chappell Waller, and Jaycee Chappell. She is survived by her adored children: Antonio Hill, Sharon Elaine Hill, and Angela (Hill) Jones, Grandchildren: Faith Jones and Bobby Jones III. Son in Law: Bobby Jones, Jr. Sister: Dorothy Chappell Johnson, brother in law Arthur (Lee) Johnson, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, great Nieces and Nephews. She will sorely be missed by us all.
