Carrol A. Gury

April 1, 1946 — December 6, 2022

CARROL ADAIR GURY On December 6, 2022, Carrol Adair Gury left her husband and siblings and went to be with the Lord. Carrol loved God and all His creations. She loved the seashore-she grew up just blocks from the Chesapeake Bay. She loved the woods-especially the forests of East Texas where she was active on environmental issues. She also loved the mountains, where she skied frequently while single. Carrol also loved God's animals-especially her beloved white German Shepherd, Elfi, and a steady stream of cats she was guardian for through the years. Carrol graduated from Catholic High in Norfolk, VA and earned a BS degree from the University of Mary Washington. She worked as a lab technician for the Virginia State Department of Health in Norfolk until she married and moved away. In 1972 she met William Schriever just as he was finishing naval service. They married in 1974 and lived various places through the years-Florida, Virginia and 35 years in Texas before moving back to the East Coast. She loved the outdoors and was active in the Sierra Club. She also supported several other environmental organizations. Carrol was a physically active and healthy woman until she faced a debilitating challenge from an unexplained and unidentified degenerative condition. After an 8-week struggle, she went to be with the Lord. Carrol is preceded in death by her father, Keith Potter Gury, and her mother, Lorraine Frances Mennen Gury. Carrol is survived by William Schriever, her husband of 48 years; sisters Ris and Janice; brother Bryan and nine nieces and nephews. The last two songs on Carrol's play list were "I'll Fly Away" (that is a story in itself!) and "Ashokan Farewell". In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be combined with those of her beloved pets and scattered near her beloved Chesapeake Bay. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Heifer International (www.heifer.org). Events Details are pending.
