Bryon Robert Sosinski

October 11, 1968 — October 16, 2024

Dr. Bryon Sosinski, PhD died at his home in Raleigh, NC on October 16, 2024 five days after celebrating his 56th birthday. Dr. Sosinski was born in Cleveland, OH the son of Robert L. Sosinski and Rev. Judith L. Wagner-Werner. Bryon graduated from Dow High School Midland, Michigan; received his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and doctoral degree from Clemson University. An associate professor of horticultural science at North Carolina State University, Bryon was the American coordinator of an effort to sequence the genome of the peach sponsored by the International Peach Genome Initiative (IPGI), involving scientists in the USA, Italy, Spain and Chile. Bryon loved people, music and sports. Any combination of the three would excite him. Whether as part of the audience, as a taper, or as part of the production staff, he loved a live show. His wry smile and one liners would make you pause and realize just how smart and witty he was. Bryon excelled hosting trivia at Sammys in Raleigh for years. He entertained a decade of celebrations and Superbowl bashes for an eclectic group of friends and strangers who were local or from across the globe at NC State. A bon vivant, Bryon lived for today and understood tomorrows were not guaranteed. He was thankful and happy, having celebrated a recent birthday. Bryon was not religious but often in times of stress asked people to close their eyes and sit in the sunshine to take it in. His friends and family ask that you sit in the sun and remember his vivid light. Bryon is predeceased by his mother and treasured dogs Pua and Sophie; and survived by his father: Robert and his wife: Sylvia, of Lake Wales, FL; brother: Jeffrey and sister-in-law Suzie of Phillipsburg, NJ; uncles: Walter Sosinski of Bluff City, TN and David Wagner of Naperville, IL; and aunt: Barbara Durko of Plymouth, NC.
