In Loving Memory of Sandy Alexander Schofield
March 20, 1946 – June 25, 2025
Sandy Alexander Schofield, 79, of Durham, NC, entered eternal rest on June 25, 2025, at home
surrounded by family. Born in Ridgeway, Virginia, and raised in Martinsville, Sandy was known
for his servant’s heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering faith in God.
After moving to New York in 1962, Sandy met and married the love of his life, Naomi Jones.
Together, they built a life rooted in love and faith, celebrating 58 years of marriage and raising
their son, Norman.
A dedicated maintenance and floor technician, Sandy faithfully served in both New York and
North Carolina for decades, leaving lasting impact of his spirit of service at institutions like Sloan
Kettering Hospital, NC School of Math & Science and Yates Baptist Church. Even after retiring
in 2011 at the age of 65, Sandy’s retirement was only in name – never in spirit. A master with his
hands, Sandy found joy in staying busy. Whether fixing household projects, restoring old cars,
working in the yard, helping family and friends, or sharing a kind word or gesture, Sandy always
made himself available to meet the needs of others. His hands remained a vessel of God’s
grace—mending what was broken, preparing meals seasoned with love, and offering comfort to
all in need. His heart was as generous as his hands were skilled, always offering
encouragement, protection, and care to those he loved.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generosity, strength, and steady
presence.
He is survived by his wife Naomi, children Norman and Donnetta, grandchildren Aaron, Mark,
Giavanni, and Jazmyn, seven great-grandchildren, siblings Ophelia, Nathaniel and Marilyn, and
a loving host of extended family and friends.
